Covering The Damage To The Hotels

The Future of Exodus8one.org and The Gadfly Project
On August 25, 2008, When Eddie Romero realized the Chinese authorities intended to deport him, he raised the subject of reimbursing the hotels for the clean up costs. (The fees for the room had already been paid.)
The authorities were quite specific that Eddie should forget about the costs. He was told that they would be taken care of and to dismiss the issue.
Nevertheless, in order to act rightly, Eddie has sent some money to both hotels to pay for the clean-up costs, and has asked the hotels to let him know if anything more is required. He is also going to pay above & beyond the required amount for the clean-up costs.

August 30th, 2008 at 9:41 pmI have a puppy who, when I point to the bone that I’ve thrown, will fix it’s gaze on my pointing finger. It does not matter how hard I point my finger towards the bone, it continuers to look at my pointing finger (completely missing the point – pun intended).
In like manner, some folks who saw the Gadfly project and the allegations that the hotels were not paid fixated on the allegations and completely missed the point of the project.
Now that the payments have been made (as was communicated and intended), those who were stuck on this issue can now in a non-puppy-like manner, turn their focus on the true issue.
Thanks for the update.

September 1st, 2008 at 5:12 pmThanks Eddie for informing us of your ongoing efforts to make restitution for the monetary damages. If there actually were any people who were concerned about the payment (I doubt it), they will be encouraged by the attempts.
The rest of us are eager to have such strawmen and red herrings dispatched as quickly as possible so that we can understand whether or not scripture says:
1) Does scripture say that the end justifes the means? That any means are holy as long as they attract attention and TV cameras to oneself and “raise awareness”?
2) Are lying, vandalization of public property, having your followers harrass and make fun of people’s names on public forums (Bill Walsh), and violent imagery “fruits of the spirit”? Can we define love to be anything we want, as long as we twist words around enough? Does scripture contain no clear definition of “love” and “fruits”?
3) Does scripture say that we should pass judgement on a billion non-believers while giving petty criminals within the Christian brotherhood a free pass? Hint; see 1 Corinthians 5:12-13. Don’t worry, people who are predisposed to support your actions will not want to open their bibles and have their biases threatened anyway.
And maybe 20 other serious questions raised by Christians at http://exodus8one.org/blog/2008/08/how-do-you-feel-about-the-gadfly-project-sound-off/

September 2nd, 2008 at 5:00 pmThe bible dose not say, “Trinity” nor “Theocracy” but the whole of the Bible teaches these things.
The bible does not say “the ends justifies the means (EJTM)” but:
How many people were killed in the flood? So then murder is “ok” if it is in the name of judgment? - EJTM
Poor Joseph. Consider all that he went through by the abuse of his family, for what? “You meant it for bad but God meant it for good” – EJTM.\
Could some interpret the fallen walls of Jericho an act of vandalism? - EJTM
Throughout scripture, hundreds of thousand of animal where slaughtered - for what? To temporarily cover the sins of a bunch of sinners – EJTM.
The Israelites killed thousands of man, women and children, to do what? Possess the Land! – EJTM.
Guys vandalize a roof to get their friend healed by Jesus, He did. Why? They were vandals! - EJTM.
How rude (unloving) was the women who continued to knock and knock on the door of the sleeping man’s house, just to get HER WAY. – EJTM.
Wow! A man is crippled his whole life, why? because his father sinned? No. Did the man sin? No. It was so God could show His power by healing him – EJTM.
God sends His son to earth to do what? To die a horrible death on a cross. Why? To save the souls of a bunch of sinners! – EJTM.
Paul was put in prison for continuing to disobey the law (speaking about Jesus). Shut up Paul! Just be a good loving little Christian! Sit back and have church. No! He continues to follow his calling.
All of history can be funneled into one purpose, God will have a people - EJTM.
Some people are not seeing the purpose and how much sanity was in place here. Eddie could have taken many other paths. He could have completely interrupted the Olympic games, he didn’t. He could have been psycho extreme, but he chose not to be violent - Give him that.
He chose to do as little damage as possible and to get the message across in a graphic way. He chose a way that could not be silenced by the authorities (Internet connections). He had every intention of repaying for the damages and was completely committed to being imprisoned for his actions (not a “free pass”) – it’s called self-sacrifice.People are being killed for their faith! To not say anything is unloving and criminal. Eddie put himself in harms way to be a voice to those who’s voices have been effectively silenced by their government. How many letters did you send out on their behalf (I’m not being judgmental, just asking for you to ask yourself) when the world was watching China, when the window was open, who spoke up?
While Jesus explains to God why he let His disciples pick grains of wheat on the Sabbath and why He ate with sinners and why he toppled the moneychangers tables and why He blessed roof vandals by healing their friend and while all historic Christians explain their actions, Eddie will explain why he painted some walls. (I know Jesus is God; I’m being facetious – but the point remains).
I’ve struggled with this too brother (I’m not a lemming or biased). I know Eddie. He is anything but a loose gun. He is a man of intelligence, commitment, and discipline. He is an educator, a family man, a friend, and a brother. Lets give him some grace.
When weighing the crime (harassing, beating, imprisoning, and killing people) with the crime (painting a few walls) the ends do justify the means. More untold numbers of people are now aware, writing and talking about what is going on in China than before this project.
The Bible does reflect that The End do Justify the Means.
We will stand before God for OUR actions and INACTIONS.
Those Pharisees appeared correct, but you and I know, they were not.Instead of beating my brother, I’ve decided to continue to beat on the door of China. Maybe my persistent knocking will bring about change in the hearts of the Chinese Government in regards to people of faith. Jesus is the head of the Church, not any self-appointed government.
Proverb 31:8,9
PeacePS:
I chose to support this project of my own will. He has not prompted me to contribute to this forum in any way. He may or may not agree with other’s posts and he may not agree with this post. I don’t worship Eddie. In the broad scope of this issue, I support it. Yes, it could have been done differently (I would have), it was not, lets continue… -

September 2nd, 2008 at 8:18 pmThank you, Eddie Romero. You stand at Christ’s side in the temple as he throws out the money-changers. To read Eliot Pattison’s brilliant novel, Skull Mantra, is to take deep into one’s heart how much the Tibetan Buddhists and Christians are kin; how much the Romans and Chinese are kin.
Countless blessings to you.
