Covering The Damage To The Hotels

The Future of Exodus8one.org and The Gadfly Project
On August 25, 2008, When Eddie Romero realized the Chinese authorities intended to deport him, he raised the subject of reimbursing the hotels for the clean up costs. (The fees for the room had already been paid.)
The authorities were quite specific that Eddie should forget about the costs. He was told that they would be taken care of and to dismiss the issue.
Nevertheless, in order to act rightly, Eddie has sent some money to both hotels to pay for the clean-up costs, and has asked the hotels to let him know if anything more is required. He is also going to pay above & beyond the required amount for the clean-up costs.

Words From Bob Fu of China Aid Association About The Gadfly Project
Posted by exodus8one | Filed under Press Release
Taken from the Gadfly Project Press conference (August 6, 2008) - “I want to briefly comment about what Pastor Eddie has been doing and about my relationship with him. I came here today with a very solemn heart. I came here really as a personal friend with this admirable family and I’m not representing even my organization, ChinaAid Association. I’m not representing any other organizations. Maybe people of faith in China may disagree the method Pastor Eddie used to highlight the issues. Nevertheless, the issue that he wants to highlight is real, is credible, is under the world watch even today; everybody recognizes the grave abuse of the broad human rights in China is deteriorating every day, especially in the name of the preparation of the olympics.
We see China is now jailing more journalists, internet writers, and people of faith then the rest of the world combined. We see 3 Americans were arrested even yesterday in Tieneman Square for holding just a prayer for those who are force aborted children, the families, and for those who are violated of their basic religious freedom rights. So I really admire the honorable call of Pastor Eddie. Of course I’ve been praying for him for a peaceful return and I call upon the Chinese government to really take the two calls from Pastor Eddie seriously, the release of these five prisoners of human rights abuses, including human rights activists, aids activists like Mr. Hu Jia who is also Buddhists, the Falun Gong practitioners, the Christian pastors, the human rights defense lawyers like Mr. Guo Feixiong and also I urge the Chinese peoples congress to ratify the signed international covenant on civil and political rights sooner than later.
I’m glad that Pastor Eddie had made the promise that once these two goals are accomplished, he is willing to surrender to the civil authorities, he is willing and prepared to make appropriate reparations. Thank you.”
Bob Fu is the founder of the China Aid Association which draws international attention to China’s gross human rights violations against house-church Christians. He has testified before many organizations, including the House International Relations Committee, U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, the Congressional-Executive Commission on China and the UN Commission on Human Rights.

Rebuttal of Lack of Payment
Posted by exodus8one | Filed under Press Release
It has come to our attention that it has been suggested that Pastor Eddie Romero has left the hotels in Beijing without paying, and also that there has been a question mark over his paying for the damage.
We wish to take this opportunity to state that Pastor Eddie pre-booked all four rooms and placed a deposit on them before arrival. It is our understanding that when he booked into three of the rooms, he paid on entry and, failing to book into the fourth room, forfeited his deposit. If there are any monies outstanding it is his intention to pay them on his surrender.
In addition, we wish to reiterate what we have stated at every interview, that it is Pastor Eddie’s intention to pay for any of the damage or, perhaps, the cleanup costs at his surrender. This has never been in question.
We are saddened that negative comments have been made on the Internet for they only detract from the main purpose of highlighting the plight of the faith communities that have been persecuted for their beliefs and our desires, together with that of many others, that the Chinese Government ratify the human rights Convention, and release prisoners.
